Bovill is an ol logging town located at a junction leading to Clarkia, Elk River and Moscow. Lumber is still the main source of income. Its nestled in a beautiful mountain meadow. Great camping, hunting & fishing can be found in all directions. My favorite is Moose Creek Meadows. Fishing, canoeing and camping are available here. Driving past the Moose Creek Meadows up the divide, wild mushrooms abound! Gas, groceries and a café are available. FISHING HOLE: Try out Moose Creek Reservoir for trout, bass - By David McCormick One week during the summer, usually in June or early July, my wife and I take a rambling laid back fishing trip. We explore the less-traveled Idaho roads and small towns. General stores with old creaky wooden floors and old dogs that are almost too slow to get out of the way of the screen door are highly coveted place to do business. People are friendly, not in a hurry and usually have a story to tell. If this scenario is unlocking a few memories, gather up some camping gear, some Country Time lemonade and head north on Highway 95. Enjoy the ride north along the scenic Salmon River to Lewiston. Take Highway 3 north to Kendrick and on north to Bovill. If you have found your way that far, you can find your way to Moose Creek Reservoir, a small 30-acre lake nestled in conifers with plenty of shade or sun. The campgrounds are improved and some have handicap fishing locations. Expect to see some white tail deer and an array of birds. I like the fishing. One evening, my wife and I caught trout (planted), bass, bluegill, crappie and pumpkinseed on a fly rod from a small boat. This lake is electric motors only. Float tubes would work great. Spinning gear with bait would catch trout from the bank. A bait casting rod, a float tube and white spinner bait were the tools necessary to take about 20 bass, 12 to 14 inches long, on the second evening. Special bass rules are in effect, so be sure to read the regulations. Do not expect motels or lodges. Enjoy a soda pop on the bench in front of the Bovill General Store or try homemade huckleberry ice cream from the Elk River General Store. Enjoy! David McCormick lives in Caldwell.
