Dayton is a good example of an early Washington community that prospered as an agricultural center. If you are a history buff, Dayton is a prize! It has a self-guided tour af the town where you visit 83 historical homes and 5 other building which are all on the National Historical Register. The Dayton Historical Depot, built in 1881, is Washington’s oldest remaining railroad station. It contains a museum. The Italian style Columbia County Courthouse, completed in 1887, is the oldest courthouse in the state and still in use . Dayton is a gateway to the Blue Mountains and the Umatilla National Forest.  The area is worth  your while for scenic drives, hiking , camping and fishing in it’s lakes and rivers. 30 minutes from town is the Bluewood Ski resort which attracts skiers from all over the Pacific Northwest. Lodging and restaurants are available in town. Also check out the 5 star restaurant. At first note your think your stopping at any ol’ truck stop café but you're in for a great surprise.
