The twin towns of Kendrick and Juliaetta, are only a few miles apart.  Kendrick has a population of 350 and Juliaetta has a population of 500.  Travel back to the early days of Idaho, when new settlers were proving up on their homesteads and aspiring merchants were building towns such as Kendrick and Juliaetta.

Tom Kirby, who founded Kendrick in 1889, named the town after the chief civil engineer for the Northern Pacific Railroad to ensure the railroad's coming to the town. Kendrick was the major railroad shipping point and trade center for the surrounding areas.

In 1862, the postmaster named Juliaetta after his two daughters, Julia and Etta Snyder.

These areas are known for their mild climate which cause orchards and vegetable gardens to thrive.

While visiting Juliaetta, you will find the intriguing Castle Museum. It was built as a home in the early 1900's and patterned after Scottish castles. It has a collection of memorabilia from early pioneer life.

Along the walking tour in Kendrick you will find history alive and well. The Long house, is a delightful mansion from the 1890's. It is a classic example of Victorian architecture located on the corner of 9th and main. It is currently being refurbished by the new owners. The brick buildings along Kendrick's Main street are straight out of the horse and buggy days. Since 1905, the Kendrick Gazette has published continuously in its own Main Street building. In what could be seen as an operating museum of American publishing technology. It is one of the few remaining newspapers in the country to continue to use the hot metal letterpress process.

Both communities have put together historic walking tours of the various homes, stores, and surviving commodities such as a water troft for the travelers weary horse, and the Kendrick Park Gazebo that was built in 1905. You may obtain more information from local merchants and at the City Hall in both towns.

In May, the locust blossoms lining Kendrick's main street are in full bloom for the Annual Locust Blossom Festival.

Kendrick and Juliaetta also pride themselves on bringing a little bit of culture to the residents of these small communities. Every summer they present a community play in the park, written and starring local talent. They also have a community swimming pool that displays a mural that was designed and painted by local high school students.

Come visit the deep river valley where Kendrick and Juliaetta lie, it will remind you of the bustling small towns which made up the pioneer West. You will find everything you need from a medical clinic, car repair, gas, groceries, laundromats, antiques, pharmacy, the list goes on. You will find that these 'little' towns are booming 'BIG' with enterprise and spirit
