Potlatch was started by Potlatch Forests Inc. as it's first company town. The Potlatch sawmill was the largest white pine mill in the world but due to depressed lumber markets the mill was closed and the railroad took out it's tracks. The town has more than survived these changes. Many of the ol' mill buildings have been refurbished and are used for community businesses. A more diverse income is provided by timber, agriculture, mining and recreation. This is a beautiful area with the combination of pine forests and meadows. There are several cafes and services for cars & RV's.
