LC Valley Easter Fly-in Turns 22Who: The Northwest Sport Pilot Association (http://www.northwestoutdoors.com/nwspa)
What: The 22nd Annual Lewis/Clark Valley
Easter Fly-in
When: April 21-22nd
Where: Asotin, Washington (WAY down here
in the south east corner of Washington)
Why: Because we do it every year.
We are not unlike lambs being led to the trimming barn....(or was that
slaughter?)
(Did I cover all the necessary items?)
Hi, Pilots, Families of Pilots and Press
People!!!
Oh, Boy! Very late notice. Since I
am not organizing this years event, I didn't realize our fly-in was coming
so soon. We are not going to have all the fun and games this year,
however, we are still going to have fun (we always seem to have fun!!)
What can we say? Last week, four
pilots soared the Asotin Hill all afternoon Sunday. The previous
day, two of us got lift off "Stinky Thermal" at the 'C' (Eko
Systems produces a VERY nice house thermal just before you are forced to
land). Both Eric and I got back to 2 grand soaring
"Stinky". The weather has been spectacular here in the LC
Valley this year. We hope you can join us in our jubilee.
For pilots planning on arriving before
Saturday or on the day of the event, contact Tom Heathman at 509-256-3304,
Aaron Frizzell at 208-799-9030 (W), or 509-751-0383, or perhaps Eric
Endicott at 509-758-6345. We use 146.420 here in the
valley. If I can find my battery charger in time, I will be carrying
my radio from Friday noon until the batteries dies, then I will recharge!
Saturday and Sunday will be our primary fly
days. The Clarkston 'C', the Asotin Hill, Steptoe Butte, Tekoa,
Puffer's Butte (Field Springs State Park - 3000 vertical, overlooking
the Grande Ronde River) - who knows which will be the best flying
site. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather.
Saturday evening, there will be a
bring-your-own meat/veggies/beer/soda BBQ on top of the Asotin Hill.
The local pilots will provide the BBQ (if mine doesn't fall apart going
down the road to launch). If there are other campers, I may whip out
my tent and join you. Normally, pilots are on launch by 10 am during
this event. When the last pilot leaves is open to debate - it things
get wild, perhaps not until late Sunday night.
Lodging arrangements might be obtained through
the following means:
Comfort Inn - Lewiston (208) 798-2090
Red Lion Inn - Lewiston http://www.redlionlewiston.com/
Quality Inn - Clarkston (509) 758-9500
Chief Timothy State Park http://www.parks.wa.gov/chieftim.htm
Field Springs State Park - Anatone (19 miles
south west of launch) - http://www.parks.wa.gov/fieldspr.htm
There is the possibility for Friday
afternoon/evening soaring conditions either from the Asotin Hill or the
'C', but please phone one of the contacts above before arriving.
Perhaps a call the night before would be appropriate to make the necessary
arrangements and to generate excitement for a Friday afternoon
flight. Some of us have to bed and plead at the feet of our bosses
to get the afternoon off in such short notice.
Driving directions to Clarkston may be
obtained by following this link:

Ouch, huh? Hey, it does the trick!
What else can I say? Hope to see you
this year. Last year we had good attendance. We certainly
invite or friends from the West (Seattle area) to join us again. We
look forward to sharing your company (and air space) again.
Take care.
